Representative of Jamaica to the UN Briefs Minister Bartlett on Global Tourism Resilence Day Proposal

Hon. Edmund Bartlett, the Minister of Tourism, Jamaica has been briefed by the Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations, Amb. Brian Wallace on the progress of Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ call for the declaration of February 17 as Global Tourism Resilence Day.

The Amb. indicated that the Resolution to be placed before the UN is being drafted and support is being generated for its successful passage.

Minister Bartlett on his part also updated the Amb. on the plans by the Ministry of tourism, the Global Tourism Resilence and Crisis Management Centre along with the Caribbean Tourist Organization and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourist Association’s plan to host the first observation of the day at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica on February 17, 2023.

If successful, Prime Minister Holness would be the second Jamaican Prime Minister to have the UN declare an international day, the first being The Most Hon. Hugh Lawson Shearer who had 1968 declared Human Rights year.
